It's Time to Raise Your Expectations.

Expect to love the furniture you buy. Whether you're shopping at The Emporium, or anywhere, you should expect your new furniture to make your home sing!

No Regrets

The furniture you buy should work out beautifully. It should grow on you! There's absolutely no reason to settle for less. Sincerely, this isn't about The Emporium. Wherever you buy, we want you to be successful!

It's not just about buying better furniture,
it's about buying furniture better.

If you've ever been disappointed by a furniture purchase, you know exactly what we're talking about. Maybe it was a sofa that should have been a love seat. Or a stain colour - "Yikes! ... I don't remember it being that dark". Forget about awkward rooms, sofas that don't fit, and colours that don't work. Forget about wasting money on furniture that doesn't measure up.

Get More From Your Furniture

Here are four approachable techniques that professional decorators use to get great results. These are practical steps that you can take to get more from the furniture you buy.

Take Pictures

Get out your digital camera and snap some shots of your space as well as any items you intend to keep. With furniture and decor, context is everything. Photographs make describing your space easy. They help us to understand the layout, the scale, the flow and the style. We can see the colours and understand the lighting. Once we have a feel for your space, we can be much more helpful.

Measure Everything

Successful interiors begin with careful measurements. Like clothing, fit is so important, and you need to know what you're working with. You'll never regret studying your furniture placement, to make sure it scales into your space nicely and that the pieces are in proportion to each other, and to the room. Measure twice, buy once.

Collect Samples

The subtleties of colour, texture and reflective value are very difficult to remember. Actually, colours are perceived differently depending on how they're paired. When you go shopping, take with you, as much information about your space as possible. Everything you can round up: paint samples, extra floor boards, tiles, kitchen cabinet samples, fabric swatches, sofa cushions, rugs. Not that everything has to match, not at all. But everything has to look good. That's the whole idea. For harmony of colour and texture, samples are key.

Gather Inspiration

There are many wonderful shelter magazines and design blogs. Whether it's an entire home, a room or a single piece, creating a vision is an important part of the process. So bookmark some web links, fold over your magazine corners, and pin up some boards. Have a favourite piece of artwork? Perfect!
